Bethnahrin Democratic Party SecGen Hakkari meets Armenian Foreign Affairs Representative
ERBIL – Bethnahrin Democratic Party Secretary General Romeo Hakkari today met with the Armenian foreign affairs representative assigned to establishing a new Armenian consulate in Erbil to discuss financial, political, and humanitarian help from Armenia for Chaldean-Syriac-Assyrian families returning to the Nineveh Plain. Hakkari explained the continuing difficult situation of the Chaldean-Syriac-Assyrian people in the Nineveh Plain after the 2017 liberation from ISIS and how Armenia can help. Hakkari emphasized that the Chaldeans-Syriacs-Assyrians in Iraq face a dark future if the international community stays financially and politically indifferent to the Christian presence in Iraq.
In the meeting, Bethnahrin Democratic Party Secretary General Hakkari also asked foreign affairs representative Arman Agobyan for Armenian support for the constitutional right for the Nineveh Plain to be granted the status of autonomous province for the Chaldean-Syriac-Assyrian people in Iraq.
The Bethnahrin Democratic Party has one seat in the parliament of the Kurdish Regional Government, the governing body of the autonomous Kurdistan Region of Iraq. The Bethnahrin Democratic Party aims to create an autonomous Administrative Region as a Chaldean-Syriac-Assyrian homeland.
