Lavrov: “Sending Syrian mercenaries to Libya is a violation of international resolutions”
MOSCOW – Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said on Tuesday that a large number of Syrian mercenaries from Idlib had been transported to Libya. Lavrov’s statements came during a press conference held with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of South Sudan. “Many mercenaries are traveling to Libya, in a violation of the Security Council resolutions,” said Lavrov.
Lavrov’s statement comes a week after the Berlin conference, where it was agreed to push for a permanent cease-fire in Libya, and to abide by the arms embargo.
According to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, more than 3,600 Syrian mercenaries have been sent by Turkey to Libya.
