DAA: Mekdad’s statements contribute to obstruction of Syrian national dialogue

QAMISHLI, Syria — On Friday, Deputy-Foreign Minister of Syria Faisal Mekdad said in an interview with Al-Mayadeen TV that “the AA administration is a taboo and we insist on complete Syrian territorial integrity.” In response, Foreign Relations Commission al Relations issued the below press statement.

********** PRESS STATEMENT **********

We are close to entering the Syrian crisis in its 10th year, and the chances of finding a solution to this tragedy are still absent. In addition to the tragedies and woes that resulted from this crisis, the efforts to insist on solving it or working to find a solution to it have failed miserably, and thus proved years that It has been argued that a traditional solution cannot be formulated or produced in parallel with the intransigence and maintaining the causes of this crisis, mainly from the regime’s intransigence and its desire to ignore change in Syria.

At a time when AA confirmed its readiness for dialogue with the regime within what serves the future of the Syrian national solution, and some of the meetings that took place in order to achieve progress in this framework, we find voices arising from within the regime to speak with the same mentality and approach that was the cause of aggravation and complication of matters in Syria, as it appeared in the last comment of Mr. Faisal al-Miqdad, the Syrian Deputy Foreign Minister.

We believe that these statements are totally incompatible with the stage that Syria is going through; rather, they contribute to obstructing the efforts of the Syrian national dialogue, so we see and confirm that these positions and speeches cannot achieve any development, and the evidence is that they have achieved nothing during the past years; On the necessity of dialogue, we stress that the media discourse and official positions of the officials of the Syrian regime should not be in this tone, bearing in mind that AA is a national project and does not absolutely threaten the unity of Syria and its people, nor is the future of the solution in them.
