U.S. reinforces military bases in Deir ez-Zor
DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria – U.S. forces in Deir ez-Zor reinforced their military bases yesterday as their partnership with the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) continues in the fight against Islamic State (ISIS) sleeper cells in the region.
According to an official source, the reinforcements were heavy artillery pieces that had been used in earlier battles against ISIS and were now returned to military bases.
The source added that the coalition forces keep increasing their forces and reinforcements in the region in order to maintain security and ensure that ISIS will not return. The source also stressed that the coalition forces will defend their forces and their partners at any cost.
Yesterday’s reinforcements are in addition to support that was parachuted into Deir ez-Zor several days ago.
The SDF, meanwhile, continue their role in the partnership to fight terrorist elements. The forces of Hajin Military Council of the Syrian Democratic Forces clashed with four members of an Islamic State cell in Deir ez-Zor. The forces of the Military Council killed one of the militants and arrested two others. The fourth drowned in the Euphrates River while trying to escape to the areas controlled by the Syrian Arab Army.
