During Great Lent Syriacs fill the Churches on the Nineveh Plain

Nineveh Plain – With the start of great Lent and the fourty days of fasting this Monday, all churches of all Syriac denominations in the Nineveh Plain were filled with believers. In spite of the breakout of the coronavirus in parts of Iraq, many faithful believers still made their way to church in this special and sacred period. During Lent the churches on the Nineveh Plain celebrate the holy mass, prayers, daily readings and every Friday the Way of the Cross.

Chor-Episkopos Father Noel al-Qas Tuma of the Syriac Catholic church said in an interview with Yezidi 24, “fasting is important for a believer and human in general to purify herself and himself from sin. Fasting is one of the fundamentals of Christianity. The believer stays close to prayer, is more in solidarity with the poor and does positive deeds and is charitable.”
