SYRIA: International Women’s Day: Syriac Women’s Union congratulates Bethnahrin Women Protection Forces
Qamishli, Gozarto – At an event organized on the occasion of March 8 International Women’s Day, Syriac Women’s Union representative for the city of Qamishli Sabah Sabo said to Syriac TV channel Suroyo TV that her special gratitude goes out to the female fighters of the Bethnahrin Women Protection Forces.
Sabah Sabo said, “we congratulate all the women in the world and especially our female fighters of the Bethnahrin Women Protection Forces. Our brave fighters of the Bethnahrin Women Protection Forces have taken up arms to protect, together with our male fighters, our region. Their work will enable us to live in freedom and dignity on our land.”
The Syriac Women’s Union in Syria (Syriac: Huyodo d Neshe Suryoye b Suriya) participated in the event in Qamishli on the occasion of International Women’s Day with a ‘Syriac Heritage’ stand exhibiting Chaldean-Syriac-Assyrian folkloristic artifacts, traditional women’s clothing and women’s handiwork.
International Women’s Day is celebrated on the 8th of March every year around the world. This years United Nations theme for International Women’s Day is ‘I am Generation Equality: Realizing Women’s Rights’. The UN on its website states, “It is a day when women are recognized for their achievements without regard to divisions, whether national, ethnic, linguistic, cultural, economic or political. The growing international women’s movement, … , has helped make the commemoration a rallying point to build support for women’s rights and participation in the political and economic arenas.”
