SYRIA: Turkey releases ISIS emir Abu Yazan al-Shami from prison in Al-Rai
AL-RAI, Syria – Abu Yazan al-Shami, an “emir” of the Islamic State for four years until its final days in Deir ez-Zor, has been released from a prison in the town of Al-Rai in Aleppo Governorate by Turkish forces.
During the push by the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) with International Coalition support to eliminate the last territorial holding of the Islamic State, which had been forces into a small area in the Deir ez-Zor countryside, Al-Shami managed to escape with the assistant of smugglers to opposition held Aleppo Governorate.
About a year ago, he was imprisoned by opposition factions and held in the town of Al-Rai.
According to information from informed local sources, Turkish forces released Abu Yazan al-Shami from prison. No information has been obtained about his whereabouts.
