IRAQ: Heavy rainfall causes severe flooding in Nineveh Plains
NINEVEH PLAINS, Iraq – Heavy rains in northern Iraq on Tuesday night into Wednesday morning led to massive flooding in the Nineveh Plains, especially the towns of Baghdede and Tesqopa.
According to the Iraq’s National Meteorology Department, the rainfall on both towns was over 11.2 cm. Volunteers from the town of Baghdede lent a hand to the affected people who were not able to go out of their homes and purchase essentials after their houses had been flooded.
The city of Mosul was also hit with heavy rainfall and suffered severe flooding due to poor drainage and a sewage system in desperate need of upkeep.
