IRAQ: Washington accuses Baghdad of not being able to protect coalition forces in Iraq
Washington / Iraq – On Friday, a senior State Department official said that the United States is deeply disappointed by the performance of the Iraqi government regarding its commitment to protect the US-led coalition forces to combat terrorist organizations in the country. The most recent attack on a coalition base killed two American soldiers and a Brit.
The Iraqi government vowed to conduct a thorough investigation and to track down those responsible for the repeated attacks on coalition forces. So far however it was unable to fulfill on its promise and was unable to arrest the attackers.
The U.S.- led coalition in Iraq to combat ISIS keeps infuriating Iran-backed Popular Mobilization Units, the Iraqi Hezbollah and other Iranian militias and armed groups in Iraq. It prompts them to target American bases and troops deployed on Iraqi soil with missile strikes.
