ANKAWA ܥܲܢܟܵܒ̣ܐ, Iraq – The Beth Nahrin Patriotic Union (HBA) in Iraq congratulated the Chaldean-Syriac-Assyrian people on Akitu (New Year) in a statement posted to its official website, wishing that the new year will be a year of unification of the CSA people and their institutions.
********** PRESS STATEMENT **********
Our Syriac Chaldean Assyrian people celebrate the Babylonian year on April 1st, The Feast of Akitu, and we welcome the year 6770 with pride as it represents the symbol of our civilization, our glorious history and our national identity, even though our nation continues to suffer from its deliberate division in order to disperse it through the displacing and immigrating the people, and some of them are integrated with other communities.
Our people have been celebrating Akitu over the years, but the celebrations in last years have not taken on a major national character among our people, because of oppression, extermination and marginalization by abolishing their national identity by the ruling regimes in the countries in which they are located.
Our celebration this year is burdened with the tragedies and pains of the killing, abduction and forced displacement of our people in Iraq, the latest was the terrorist attack by ISIS and the current suffering from the new Coronavirus.
The party congratulates our nation on the Babylonian New Year 6770 and hopes that the New Year will be the year of the union for our people with all its factions and institutions and our people have all their national rights.
Let our New Year celebrations be hope to achieve the aspirations of our people in unity and to reunite with our migrants and contribute to the building of a free and prosperous democratic society, and strongly involved in making a change in Political governance to produce a rational government and build a state of happiness for our people.
