LEBANON: Syriac Union Party distributes aid to needy families in Heart-to-Heart campaign
Beirut, al-Matn – The Syriac Union Party distributed food to over 400 families in the coastal area of al-Matn in Lebanon this week as part of its Heart-to-Heart relief campaign. Lebanon is going through very difficult economic, social and political times and thousands of families are left without income due to the crisis that has brought the country to a stand-still.
The relief campaign was organized in partnership with Syriac Cross Relief & Development, the Syriac Youth Union in Lebanon, the Beth Nahrin Women’s Organization and SCHlomo Relief & Development – all relief and aid organizations affiliated with the Beth Nahrin National Council. Financial support came from Syriacs all over the world through a fundraising campaign on Syriac television channel Suroyo TV.
Lebanon is going through an economic crisis and is technically bankrupt. The country saw massive popular demonstrations and the corona crisis and subsequent lock-down brought the final blow to the country.
The Heart-to-Heart campaign helps families in acute need and is overseen by the Vice President of the Syriac Union Party Layla Latte and the Syriac Youth Union. The kick-off of food distribution was attended by Strong Lebanon Bloc Syriac Member of the Lebanese Parliament and retired Army General Antoine Pano. MP Pano in a satellite speech on Suroyo TV thanked the Syriac union Party for the good organization of the campaign and emphasized the importance of the relief campaign in these difficult times for Lebanon.
The Heart-to-Heart relief campaign began last Sunday on Suroyo TV with a fundraising among Syriacs around the world calling on them to show their solidarity with the needy in Lebanon and to support them through these difficult times. The Syriac Union Party told our news service that the party will finalize relief efforts in the city of Zahlé and continue its Heart-to-heart campaign with a new fundraising campaign on Suroyo TV this Wednesday.
