Trump threats to suspend U.S. funding to the World Health Organization
WASHINGTON – U.S. President Donald Trump announced the possibility of suspending U.S. financial contributions to the World Health Organization (WHO), accusing it of being biased toward China.
“The World Health Organization (WHO) is getting huge amounts of money from the U.S. and we intend to suspend these financial contributions,” Trump stated at a press conference on Tuesday evening.
The U.S. President attacked the WHO via Twitter, pointing out that he rejected its “faulty” recommendation to leave the borders open with China at the beginning of the emerging coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.
“The World Health Organization (WHO) blew it for some reason. The WHO is largely funded by the U.S., but it is biased towards China,” Trump tweeted.
Trump’s decision coincides with the World Health Organization efforts to raise funds to help curb the COVID-19 pandemic which has infected nearly 1.5 million people and killed over 83,000 people worldwide.
