SYRIA: U.S. and Russia strengthen military presence and influence
SYRIA – Since the start of Russian intervention in the war in Syria, Russia has sought and achieved to increase its military influence in the country and consolidated its presence and influence in Syrian territory at the expense of Iran. According to Russian media sources, relying on sources in the military industrial complex, the Russian Black Sea fleet submarine B37 Rostov on-Don will depart from its home naval base to journey and join the Russian naval forces located at Syria’s Mediterranean coast Sea. It is not known whether the submarine is to remain permanently will replace another submarine currently present in the Mediterranean
As concerns the American forces, they also are seeking to (re-)strengthen their influence in Syria. Seventy trucks loaded with weapons, ammunition and logistical materials arrived through the al-Waleed border-crossing with Iraq heading for the Tel Baidar and Qasrok bases in northeastern Syria. Earlier this month, 50 American trucks arrived through the al-Waleed crossing for the city of al-Hasakah. They brought logistics for the Syrian Democratic Forces. Also earlier his month, a convoy with military reinforcements arrived at the American base in the city of Shaddadi. It included 25 military vehicles and ammunition.
It is worth noting that Russia and the U.S. are seeking to counter Iranian and Turkish presence in the region and impose their influence and hegemony at the expense of the latter two.
