SYRIA: First phase Al-Jaghjagh River cleanup completed in Zalin (Qamishli)
ZALIN ܙܐܠܝܢ (QAMISHLI), Syria – In an interview with SuroyoTV, the Co-Chairship of Zalin (Qamishli) Municipality discussed the efforts of the municipality to clean up the Al-Jaghjagh River and calling on the people of the city to cooperate with the municipality to help reduce pollution.
The Al-Jaghjagh riverbed has become increasingly polluted will accumulated waste due to the systematic diversion of sewage from the Turkish occupation areas into the river basin.
The municipality finished cleaning a large part of the riverbed which was then sterilized by the Environmental Committee. The remaining part of the river is being cleaned.
In addition, an iron fence will be erected to reduce the amount of sediment carried into the river by rainwater. A large number of trees will also be planted on the banks of the river in order to assist with runoff flow and chemical absorption.
In addition to cleaning the Al-Jaghjagh River, the municipality stated it had assisted the village of Jamaya with the removal of accumulated animal dung
The municipality called on the people of Zalin to keep the streets and public facilities clean and cooperate with the municipality to reduce pollution in the city.
