Sanharib Barsoum: In some countries we see the laundering of money, in Syria they launder terrorist groups
ZALIN ܙܐܠܝܢ- (QAMISHLI), Syria – On Wednesday morning, Mr. Sanharib Barsoum, Co-Chair of the Syriac Union Party (SUP) in Syria, wrote via his Twitter account about the “laundering of terrorist organizations” in Syria by Turkey.
In an interview with SuroyoTV, Mr. Barsoum expanding on what he meant by the tweet:
“We have heard about money laundering, but in Syria we find the laundering of terrorist organizations, a phenomenon we first saw in Jarablus in 2016 when the factions backed by Turkey took control of the city from the Islamic State within hours. The fighters of ISIS suddenly disappeared from an important stronghold along the Turkish border. There were no strong clashes in the city, many of them changed their clothes and became members of the ‘moderate opposition’. Now we have Turkey white washing Jabhat al-Nusra [Hayat Tahrir al-Sham] in Idlib to fold it into the so-called ‘National Army’. Syria will become free of terrorists in name only, but their dark ideologies will remain and expand.”
