Suspected Islamic State financial officer arrested by Internal Security Forces of North and East Syria
RAQQA, Syria – On Wednesday, the Anti-Terror Forces (HAT) of the Internal Security Forces (ISF) of North and East Syria arrested suspected Islamic State (ISIS) financial officer Ahmed Mohammed al-Ali during a counter-terrorism operation in Raqqa.
According to a statement issued by the ISF, al-Ali was arrested based on intelligence gather about the ISIS cells operating in North and East Syria.
Large sums of money in various currencies and four mobile phones were recovered during the operation.
The arrest of al-Ali is the latest in a series of arrests of suspected ISIS cells across North and East Syria, particularly in the Raqqa and Deir ez-Zor areas. The ISF and the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), in cooperation with members of the International Coalition against Daesh (ISIS), have stepped up their efforts to hunt down the hidden remnants of the Islamic State.
