SYRIA: More reconciled rebels join Russia-led reintegration program

DARAA, Syria – Syria- A new group of reconciled opposition fighters have arrived in the Syrian desert (Badia) towns of Daraa and Quneitra. The group is the latest to reconcile as a part of the Russia-led program to integrate opposition groups back under Damascus’s control.

Russian Forces have deployed fighters at certain checkpoints around and in the Badia in a plan to replace the Iranian and Iranian-backed forces in the region in an effort to minimize, and eventually eliminate, Iran’s presence in the south of the country.

The move to push Iran out of southern Syria follows a Russian-U.S.-Israeli meeting months ago as part of joint coordination in Syria.

In recent months, Russia has allowed Israel to intensify its bombing of Iranian military targets in Syria after their presence became an obstacle to the common interests of coordinating countries.
