NORTH&EAST SYRIA: returning fires destroy barley crop in Beth Zalin (Qamishli) countryside

ZALIN (QAMISHLI), Syria – The dark scenario of burning agricultural lands in the Gozarto (Jazeera) Region of North and East Syria has come true again. In the countryside of Zalin (Qamishli), a huge fire broke out on Friday afternoon in the village of Manjur, Tel Kujer district. According to the Agriculture Directorate of the Democratic Autonomous Administration, the burned area was estimated at 150 hectares of barley land. Firefighters rushed to the place of the fire but the fire unfortunately, destroyed large parts of the barley fields. The cause of the massive fire is not known.

In al-Hasakah, a fire broke out in agricultural fields outside the Khashman neighborhood in the city. Shortly after the fire broke out and was noticed, firefighting teams together with people from the neighborhood were able to put out the fire.

In similar fires last year, huge fires in various areas of the Gozarto (Jazeera) destroyed wheat and barley crops causing great losses to the livelihoods of farmers.
