NORTH & EAST SYRIA: Syriac and Armenian Orthodox celebrate Ascension Day

GOZARTO (AL-JAZEERA), Syria – Syriac and Armenian Orthodox churches in the Gozarto Region celebrated Holy Ascension Day, the feast of Jesus Christ’s Ascension to heaven. After two months of closure over the COVID-19 pandemic, believers participated in the religious ceremonies while maintaining social distancing during prayers.

His Eminence Maurice Amsih, bishop of the Syriac Orthodox Church in the Gozarto & Euphrates, celebrated the Holy Ascension Day in the Virgin Mary Church in Zalin (Qamishli). In his sermon he spoke about the meaning of the holy day and feast celebrated 40 days after Easter according to Eastern Calendar.
