Syrian Democratic Forces launch massive counter-terror operation, refutes Turkish claims that PKK fighter was killed in its territory
HASAKAH and DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria – The Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) launched today a large-scale military campaign in the countryside of Deir ez-Zor against the cells of the Islamic State (ISIS) late Wednesday evening. “The campaign includes the areas located in Al-Shaddadi, in the southern countryside of the city of Hasakah, till the city of Al-Bukamal in the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor,” an informed military source stated.
Local estimates put the number of SDF, Internal Security Forces (ISF) of the Democratic Autonomous Administration (DAA), and International Coalition forces at 6,000, making the current operation the largest of its kind since the territorial defeat of ISIS in 2018.
In other news, the Media Center of the SDF issued a statement to the public refuting Turkish allegations that a member of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) died while fighting in the area.
“The Turkish Ministry of Defense published on its social media sites the martyrdom of fighters from the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) in the areas under their control,” said the statement.
The Media Center went on to refute the Turkish claims, saying the Turkish claims were fabricated and that Turkey is waging a media war against the DAA and North and East Syria.
