Kino Gabriel: “Deterring Terrorism” campaign a success, will contribute to lasting stability of North and East Syria

NORTH AND EAST SYRIA – Kino Gabriel, spokesperson for the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), spoke on Thursday with SuroyoTV about the most important achievements of the SDF in their recent campaign against the Islamic State (ISIS) in the countryside of Hasakah and Deir ez-Zor.

The “Deterring Terrorism” campaign covered an area of approximately 10,000 sq km, encompassing including over 150 villages with the aim of uncovering ISIS cells and supporters in the area.

The campaign was carried out by the SDF with the support of the U.S.-led International Coalition forces and involved the Deir ez-Zor Military Council and its commando forces, as well as SDF counter-terrorism units and the Women’s Protection Units (YPJ). Nearly 110 suspects and known ISIS members were arrested, and large quantities of weapons, ammunition, and explosives were seized.

Initially launched in eastern Syria, the campaign coincided with a parallel campaign by Iraqi forces on the other side of the border. The campaign, considered greatly successful, will contribute to the security and stability in and around Deir ez-Zor, said Gabriel.

He concluded by saying that this campaign will not be the last, as the SDF “will continue to organize similar campaigns, so that security may prevail in all areas of North and East Syria.”
