Iranian escalation in Syria offset by Israeli attacks
DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria – In conjunction with the visit of Iranian Brig. Gen. Esmail Ghaani, commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps’ Quds Force, to Iranian operations centers in Bukamal in the Deir ez-Zor countryside, Syrian activists revealed the opening of a new training camp in the region.
The Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps is considered a terrorist organization by the U.S. for its international operations.
The new camp is dedicated to training new members of Iranian-backed factions from the surrounding region. Many of the locals from Bukamal have only recently returned to their homes after years of displacement. At the training camp, locals are recruited intellectually and militarily by the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps.
In related news, the Israeli campaign against Iranian military assets in Syria continues.
In Al-Abbas village, near Bukamal, Israeli strikes on Iranian positions killed six militiamen. Positions in the Sayal desert were also struck, killing at least nine Iranian militia members and destroying ammunition and weapons depots.
