NORTH and EAST SYRIA: Syriac Union Party meets with Kurdish National Council

ZALIN (QAMISHLI), Syria – A delegation from the Syriac Union Party (SUP) in Syria met with representatives of the Kurdish National Council (KNC) at the KNC-office in Zalin (Qamishli).  The visiting delegation was headed by SUP Co-Chair Sanharib Barsoum and included SUP officials Afram Ishaq and Ablahad Gawriya. They were received by Muhammad Ismail, Fasla Yousuf, Faisal Yousuf, Sulaiman Osu and Nemat Daoud. The SUP delegation extended its congratulations on the agreed memorandum of understandings with the Kurdish National Unity parties.

SUP Co-Chair Barsoum stressed the importance of constant consultation and coordination between all components of the Democratic Autonomous Administration, and that mutual understandings are necessary steps for a joint future. They come within the natural context of a pluralistic society in all its forms where freedom, respecting the others opinion and preserving common life are the standard. Mr. Barsoum also affirmed that there is no solution for Syria without such understandings among all political forces in the Syrian arena.

The KNC officials affirmed the importance for the dialogues with the Kurdish National Unity parties, indicating that these dialogues are not targeting any other components in the Region but instead serve the recognition of the rights of all parties and components. They also confirmed the importance of everyone’s role and effort in reaching a state of justice, security and stability.

Both sides touched on many of the matters and recent developments happening in Syria. They stressed the importance of addressing and solving issues of the peoples in Syria, such as the Kurdish and Syriac-Assyrian people, and of all other components, and the necessity to reach a final inclusive political solution in Syria.
