NORTH AND EAST SYRIA: Technical error in automatic bakery causes bread shortage in Zalin (Qamishli)

ZALIN (QAMISHLI), Syria – Avin Azam, Co-Chair of the Directorate of Bakeries in Zalin (Qamishli) city, confirmed through a statement to the SuroyoFM, that the cause of a local bread shortage was a technical error in the municipality’s automatic bakery. Additionally, improper storage has decreased the quality of available bread.

“The bakery was working on one line only. After it has been repaired, it will be working on three lines, with an estimated quantity of 24 tons per day,” Azam stated, indicating that the poor quality of the bread was due to the bread gathering on top of each other during the hot weather. The improper storage of flour was also a cause of poor-quality bread.

“Methods to avoid such errors are being studied. In addition, stalls of bread distributions will be installed in the neighborhoods in order to directly distribute bread to the citizens,” Co-Chair Azam concluded.
