IRAQ Coronavirus Update: Several Syriac-Chaldean clergy infected in Baghdad

BAGHDAD – The Syriac Chaldean Church of Babylon reported on its website that in recent weeks a number of Syriac-Chaldean clergy in Baghdad have contracted the Coronavirus. Among them were bishop Shlemon Warduni who is now in quarantine. The same goes for Fathers Bahçat Salwa, Fr Martin Buni and Fr Mina al-Urishlimi. Priest Maher Fouad contracted the virus but has recovered completely. One Syriac Chaldean nun is reported to be still in quarantine.

So far ten Chaldeans-Syriacs-Assyrians have succumbed to the Coronoavirus. Most of them were from Baghdad. There are some thirty known infection cases. The Syriac Chaldean Patriarchate called on its website on all Chaldeans-Syriacs-Assyrians to pray for the recovery of all those afflicted by the pandemic and urged adherence to the measures in force, home quarantine, and the use of masks in public places and gatherings.
