NORTH and EAST SYRIA: Light skirmishes and quarrels between regime forces and U.S. forces in Tel Tamr countryside

TEL TAMR, KHABUR, Syria – Syrian regime forces based in Mansaf village, east of the Syriac-Assyrian town of Tal Tamr, intercepted an American convoy of armored vehicles on a regular tour of the area. The forces of the Syrian Arab Army set up mine-like boxes on the sides of the road after which the American armored vehicles, in response, opened fire on the boxes and on the building next to it.

The regime forces responded with fire over the American armored vehicles while trying to return from the village to their base. After an exchange of words between the two sides, the American forces returned to their base in the village of Tal Baidar on the international road northeast of al-Hasakah city.

These skirmishes were followed by complaints from villagers to the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) that regime forces had set up a checkpoint saying regime forces harassed locals, arrested youngsters and took bribes from passers-by. This prompted the SDF to cordon off the regime forces present in the village and give them a deadline to pull out their forces safely from the village.

Russian forces present at the nearby al-Mubaqer station north of Tel Tamr however intervened to calm all sides and stop the skirmishes. To resolve irritations and differences, officers of the SDF, Russian forces and regime forces held a meeting, on Sunday, at al-Mubaqar station amid tight security.
