Lybian Major General Al-Mesmari: Libya will witness a major battle in the coming hours
BENGHAZI, Libya – Major General Ahmed al-Mesmari, spokesperson for the General Command of the Libyan National Army (LNA) led by General Khalifa Haftar, confirmed that the coming hours will witness a major battle in the vicinity of Sirte and Al-Jafra.
Al-Mesmari indicated that there were what he described as “major movements of the Turkish-backed militia and the militia of Tripoli-based Government of National Accord (GNA)” in the vicinity of the two regions.
Al-Mesmari stressed that the coming battle will not only be Libyan but also a wider Arab conflict with foreign parties involved, stressing that Turkey’s plan threatens the security and peace in the region.
Al-Mesmari’s statement came in conjunction with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s announcement on Tuesday regarding his agreement with U.S. President Donald Trump during a telephone conversation to work together under the pretext of finding a solution to the conflict in Libya.
It is worth mentioning that yesterday the Benghazi-based Lybian House of Representatives authorized Egypt to intervene militarily in Libya to “protect the national security of the two countries”, stressing the importance of joining the two countries’ efforts to defeat the Turkish occupation.
