DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria – During his meeting with the elders of Deir ez-Zor tribes, General Commander of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) Mazloum Abdi expressed his willingness to protect the city’s residents from the remaining cells of the Islamic State (ISIS) in addition to working to improve the economic reality in the region. The tribes’ elders, in turn, stressed their support for the SDF.
During the Wednesday meeting, Abdi listened to the concerns and problems of the people of the region and discussed a participatory vision for the future.
During the meeting, the tribal elders conveyed the message of Deir ez-Zor people, their political, security, economic, and health struggles, and the need to restructure the civil administrations and find a solution to the region’s service problems. The elders also stressed their support for the SDF but sought a resolution to the issue of women and children still in refugee camps.
Abdi expressed the SDF commitment to protect the people of Deir ez-Zor from the remaining ISIS cells in coordination with the U.S-led International Coalition.
He also pledged to follow up on the issue of people from Deir ez-Zor who are still in camps, especially Al-Hol Refugee Camp, in addition to working to improve the economic reality in the region in all its aspects, including providing job opportunities.
