Greek Foreign Minister Dundas: Greece faces an escalating Turkish aggression which destabilizes the region
ATHENS — Greek Foreign Minister Nikos Dundas confirmed that Greece faces escalating tensions with Turkey as the latter increasingly pursues an aggressive foreign policy which has become a destabilizing factor in the region.
Dundas stated via Twitter that, “Greece faces an escalating Turkish aggression across the eastern Mediterranean, in complete violation of the International Law of the Sea and good neighborly relations, indicating that it has become a destabilizing factor in the region.”
“Defending Greece’s sovereignty against Turkey’s provocations is not negotiable. The Turkish provocative violations are not only limited to Greece’s sovereignty but also to the sovereignty of Cyprus,” Dundas stated in a press conference before the Greek media.
Dundas stressed the recent condemnation of the European Union’s Foreign Ministers of the Turkish provocations, in addition to the Union’s readiness to take clear and concrete measures against Turkey.
At its last meeting in Brussels, the EU indicated the possibility of imposing sanctions on Turkey for its violation of the Greek and Cypriot territorial waters, in addition to its violation of the arms embargo on Libya.
