Armenian and Syriac Maronite Lebanese MPs proposal to make 24 April a National Day of Genocide Commemoration
BEIRUT — Several Members of Lebanese Parliament have submitted a proposal to the Parliament of Lebanon requesting to commemorate April 24 as a national day of commemoration of the Armenian Genocide and the Sayfo Genocide of 1915 on Syriacs (Assyrians-Arameans-Chaldeans). The proposal also asks for Lebanese students to be educated about the dangers of racism and the importance of safeguarding human rights.
The lawmakers who submitted the proposal are Sami Gemayel, President of the Lebanese Kataeb Party, Kataeb parliament bloc members Sheikh Nadim Bashir Gemayel and Elias Hankash, Armenian and Independent MPs MPs Paula Yacoubian, Hagop Pakradounian, Jean Taloussian, Fouad Makhzoumi, Michel Moawad, Neemat Frem and Shamel Roukoz. The members of Lebanese parliament hope to pass the proposal in parliament as soon as possible.
