SYRIA: Al-Abda and Pedersen discuss the latest political developments
GENEVA — The head of the Syrian negotiating committee, Anas al-Abda, held a virtual meeting with U.N. Special Envoy for Syria Geir Pedersen to discuss the latest political developments related to Syrian affairs.
During the meeting, the two sides exchanged views on the need to implement UNSCR 2254 in all its terms.
For his part, al-Abda affirmed the support of the Syrian negotiating body for the efforts of the U.N. envoy in this regard.
Al-Abda also affirmed the body’s support for the work of the Syrian Constitutional Committee, the third session of which the U.N. envoy called to be held on 24 August in Geneva.
Al-Abda called for international support for the liberated areas to control the coronavirus pandemic. Al-Abda stressed the need to intensify international pressure on the Syrian regime to secure the release of detainees who are at greater risk of contracting COVID-19.
