Tensions escalate on the Israeli–Syrian border

DARAMSUQ (DAMASCUS) — Israeli strikes on targets in Syria continue to escalate as tensions increase along the border. On Friday, the Israeli Army said that its helicopters raided Syrian Arab Army targets in response to mortars in Syria targeted toward the Israeli-controlled Golan Heights.

The Israeli Army said in a statement that several targets had been hit, including monitoring sites and intelligence operations centers.

The Israeli strikes came hours after shelling targeted the Israeli-controlled Golan Heights, which was launched from the Syrian-controlled part of the Golan. The Israeli Army stated that there were no reports of casualties, but that an Israeli building and vehicle had been damaged.

Tensions have escalated this week along the Israeli–Syrian border after a member of Iranian-backed Lebanese Hezbollah fighters was killed in an apparently preemptive Israeli strike on the outskirts of Daramsuq (Damascus) on Monday.

The Israeli Army said it has since strengthened its forces along its borders with Syria and Lebanon.
