SYRIA: Turkish shelling kills at least 6 civilians, including children, west of Mabbug (Manbij)

MABBUG (MANBIJ), Syria — Late on Monday, Turkish forces targeted the villages of Qurt Wiran and Willanli, west of Mabbug (Manbij), with artillery and mortar fire, killing six civilians, including children. Six others were injured. Most of the dead were from one family, said Manbij Military Council spokesperson Shervan Derwish.

The shelling originated from the Turkish military base in Sheikh Nasser village. Turkish surveillance drones overhead observed the incident.

This attack is the latest breach of the ceasefires Turkey agreed to with the U.S. and Russia following its invasion if North and East Syria in October 2019. Turkey and the Turkish-backed Syrian National Army (SNA) violate the ceasefire through drone strikes, shelling, or incursions on a near daily basis.
