SYRIA: Suleiman al-Kassar, spokesperson for the Al-Akkidat tribe, assassinated in his home in Deir ez-Zor countryside
DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria — On Thursday, in an attack launched by anonymous assailants on his house, head of the Al-Bukair tribal committee and spokesperson for the Al-Akkidat tribe Suleiman al-Kassar was assassinated and his son wounded in the Al-Basira area of the Deir ez-Zor countryside.
Al-Kassar, nicknamed Abo Naim, was transferred to a hospital in the area but succumbed to his wounds. Al-Kassar had become known for his rejection of any foreign interference, especially that of Turkey.
Similar assassination attempts have taken place in the region recently. An assassination attempt was made on member of the Future Syria Party (FSP) Hudhaifa al-Ahmad by suspected Islamic State militants in the Al-Shuhail area in the Deir ez-Zor countryside.
Also, Bashir Faisal al-Huwaidi, sheikh of Al-Afadleh tribe, the largest tribe in Al-Raqqa, was shot in east of Raqqa city.
