VIDEO: Afghans raised Taliban banners inside Hagia Sophia and shouted ‘Allahu Akbar’

The European Post (4 August 2020) – A video showing a group of men posing with the Taliban flag inside the mosque went viral on social media. Afghans unfurled Taliban banner inside Hagia Sophia a few days after it was converted into a mosque. The video shows men, some of them dressed in traditional Afghan costumes, unfurling a Taliban banner inside Hagia Sophia and shouting slogans. They were shouting “Allahu Akbar” with their right index finger raised, a gesture that has been identified with Islamic extremism.

Afghan Foreign Ministry spokesperson Gran Hewad asked Turkey to take action against people who unfurled Taliban banner. “The peace process is supported by the Afghan government and the Afghan people, [they] should support it too and get rid of movements that can harm this process and that appear in these countries,” Hewad said.
