NORTH AND EAST SYRIA: Peace and Freedom Front meets US State Department representative in Syria
NORTH AND EAST SYRIA: A delegation of the newly established Peace and Freedom Front this Thursday met with representative of the US State Department’s Syria Transition Assistance Response Team Zahra Bell. The US State Department’s Syria Transition Assistance Response Team works to bring together different parties in northeastern Syria and their views on the Syrian crisis.
According to the statement issued by the Peace and Freedom Front, US representative Zahra Bell thanked the Front’s position in support of the Kurdish-Kurdish negotiations and she made it clear that “the US is working to unify all spectrums of the Syrian opposition, and that the US sponsorship of the Kurdish-Kurdish negotiations falls within this framework.”
From the side of Peace and Freedom Front the delegation was formed by representatives of its member body’s including Daoud Daoud and Gabriel Mushe of the Syriac political party the Assyrian Democratic Organization. The Front’s delegation expressed its gratefulness for the efforts by the US and the international coalition in eliminating terrorist organization ISIS, and for the American role in the region as a balancing factor in finding a political solution to the Syrian crisis.
The delegation emphasized that the the newly established Front aims to work to bring together differing views within the Syrian opposition, and will work to establish good relations with international and regional actors in Syria to find a political solution to the Syrian crisis. US State Department representative Zahra Bell said that the US is working to find a political solution to the crisis. By putting pressure on the regime and imposing economic sanctions, the US aims to (re-)activate the Geneva process in accordance with international resolutions, especially Resolution 2254, and to to secure stability in northeastern Syria.
