BREAKING: Early reports indicate Brigadier General of Iraqi Border Guards killed in Turkish air strike

ERBIL, Iraq — In the late afternoon on Tuesday, local media outlets in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq reported Turkish drones targeted a high-level meeting between the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) and a unit of the Iraqi Border Guard near Sidakan, in mountains northeast of Erbil.

However, some reporting indicates that the strikes may have targeted a column of Border Guard vehicles and that no members of the PKK were present or injured.

Local officials have confirmed the death of at least one high-ranking officer in the Turkish strike, Brigadier General Zuber Hali, Commander of the Third Regiment of the Iraqi Border Guard.
