Syrian Democratic Forces release nine detainees at behest of tribal leaders

DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria — Following requests by elders of the tribes of Shaddadi, the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) released nine detainees following intensive security checks.

This is the fifth group to be released by the SDF at the behest of tribal leaders in Deir ez-Zor. Together, some 500 detainees have been released back to their families and communities after determining they had not committed violent crimes.

The elders thanked the SDF for their cooperation in meeting their demands.

The detainees, after their release, reportedly assured their families of the good treatment they had received throughout their detention and that they had not been subjected to any kind of violence.

The nine prisoners released were from the areas of Al-Shahil, Al-Baseera, Dhiban, and Al-Sour in the Der al-Zor countryside.
