Syrian Democratic Council delegation arrives in Moscow to discuss political solution to civil war
MOSCOW — Diplomatic sources informed SyriacPress that a delegation of the Syrian Democratic Council (SDC) arrived in the Russian capital on Friday. The delegation included Sanharib Barsoum — Co-Chair of the Syriac Union Party (SUP) in Syria, Sihanouk Dibo — Member of the Presidency Council of the SDC, Îlham Ahmed — Co-Chair of the Executive Council of the Democratic Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria, and Hikmat Habib — Deputy Co-Chair of the Executive Council of the SDC.
The delegation is expected to sign a memorandum of understanding with the People’s Will Party (PWP), which will include several points related to the two parties’ vision of a political solution in Syria.
The PWP has acted as a mediator between various warring parties in the Syrian conflict and has called for radical democratic change in the country. Representing a more traditional top-down reform model, the PWP has called for a national democratic system and the rolling back of economic liberalization with began in 2005 and the nationalization of key economic sectors.
The program of the SDC delegation includes meetings with several officials in Moscow, including meetings at the Russian Foreign Ministry.
