IRAQ: Bethnahrain Patriotic Union receives Democratic Union Party delegation and responds to initiative of Beth Nahrin Democratic Party

ANKAWA, Iraq — A delegation of the Democratic Union Party (PYD) visited the headquarters of Bethnahrain Patriotic Union (HBA) in Ankawa, Erbil Province. The visiting delegation included PYD Co-Chair Ibrahim Hasan Hussein, Helen Muhammad Sheikhmous, Mustafa Khalil Hashdi, and Jihad Hasan Muhammad.

The delegation was received by the Chairman of the HBA, Youssef Yaqoub Matti.

During the meeting, developments of the political situation in Iraq and the Kurdistan Region of Iraq (KRI) were discussed. The two parties stressed the importance of consolidating truly democratic systems for the development and prosperity of the Iraqi people. They also highlighted the need to deepen the mutual relations between the two parties.

The Beth Nahrin Democratic Party (BNDP) issued a statement thanking the leadership of the HBA and Abnaa Nahrain because they were the only two parties that made clear stances on the national initiative launched by Beth Nahrin Democratic Party on 18 August. According to the BNDP statement, the HBA was the only party to have responded to the initiative and submitted their observations and suggestions to contribute to its success.

“The rest of our people’s parties have not shown interest in the initiative proposed by the Beth Nahrin Democratic Party,” read the statement. “The initiative was concerned with increasing national unity and organizing internal matters of our Chaldean–Syriac–Assyrian people and thus activating joint national work among all parties.”

The BNDP pledged to continue pursing inter-party dialogue with the aim of establishing strong and honest representation for the Chaldean–Syriac–Assyrian people. The party also promised to continue communication and understanding with all parties to discuss the terms of the initiative and develop it further.

The BNDP also voiced its readiness to respect any national initiative presented by any other national party on the condition that the initiative’s provisions be implemented practically and away from any narrow personal or party interests.
