SYRIA: 42 additional bodies exhumed from mass graves near Ayn Issa
AYN ISSA, Syria — Under the supervision of the Public Relations Office of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and the Internal Security Forces (ISF) of North and East Syria, 42 new bodies of the Ninety-Third Brigade of the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) have been exhumed from the a mass grave located near the village of Khafyat al-Wahab southwest of Ayn Issa.
Those in the graves were executed by the Islamic state (ISIS) during its control over the countryside of Ayn Issa in 2014.
On Wednesday, 15 bodies were been exhumed from a nearby grave in the village of Al-Farhaniyah.
The total number of corpses exhumed from the two mass graves to 57 corpses of the members of the Ninety-Third Brigade.
The bodies were handed over by the SDF to Syrian regime forces for recognition and eventual return to their families for burial.
“The regime forces have coordinated with the SDF Public Relations Office to exhume the corpses from the two mass graves,” an SDF commander stated, explaining that the handover process is part of the duties of the SDF in serving the Syrian people.
“Civil and military institutions in North and East Syria are ready to cooperate with any governmental party to uncover the fate of any Syrian citizen who was lost during ISIS control,” the SDF commander continued.
It is worth noting that ISIS killed many members of the SAA when they took control of the headquarters of the Ninety-Third Brigade in the countryside of Ayn Issa, in 2014
