IRAQ: Three ISIS members involved in enslavement of Yezidi women arrested in Nineveh and Diyala provinces
NINEVEH and DIYALA and MOSUL, Iraq – Iraqi security authorities announced the arrests of three members of the Islamic state (ISIS) who participated in the enslavement of Yezidi women in Shengal (Sinjar) and fought for ISIS during battles against Iraqi security forces.
According to the spokesperson for the Iraqi Armed Forces Command, 22 ISIS members have been arrested since last July.
In a public statement, spokesperson for the Commander of the Iraqi Armed Forces, Major General Yahya Rasoul, announced the arrests by the Iraqi Counter-Terrorism Service during two separate missions in Nineveh and Diyala provinces. The two ISIS members arrested in Nineveh Province were arrested in Mosul.
“The number of terrorists who were arrested by the Iraqi Counter-Terrorism Service since July has reached 22,” Rasoul indicated.
According to authorities, the arrested ISIS members were fighters in the Diwan al-Jund, the Islamic State’s version of a regular army, in Jazira Region in North and East Syria.
While recording their statements, the arrested men admitted their participation in at least eight battles against Iraqi Security Forces during liberation operations, in addition to killing citizens and enslaving Yezidi women in Shengal when ISIS took control of the area in 2014.
