BEIRUT — A massive fire has broken out at the site of the 4 August explosion at Beirut’s port that killed nearly 200 people, injured over 6,000, and left 300,000 other homeless.

It is unclear what initially caused the fire but one eyewitness reported that welding work being done at the site ignited material in a duty free warehouse containing alcohol, paper, and other flammable materials.
THREAD: I just spoke to an eyewitness, Alain Khoury, who works at a warehouse in the private area of Beirut port and witnessed the start of the fire.
He told me that workers in the warehouse near his were welding metal bars (reminds you of something?)… https://t.co/u7aw79RDte
