U.S. Special Representative for Syria James Jeffrey arrives in North and East Syria in an unannounced visit
NORTH AND EAST SYRIA — U.S. Special Envoy for Syria James Jeffrey arrived in North and East Syria on an unannounced visit yesterday without a clear statement by the U.S. State Department of the visit’s purpose. The aim, it has been presumed, is to discuss the fight against the Islamic State, the ongoing Kurdish–Kurdish dialogue, political developments in the region, and the U.S.’s recent reinforcement of its positions in Hasakah and Dayro Zcuro (Deir ez-Zor).
An official statement on the purpose of the visit is expected in the future.
No Kurdish party involved in the Kurdish–Kurdish dialogue has commented on Jeffrey’s visit so far.
Some Kurdish sources believe that the aim of Jeffrey’s visit is related to the official declaration of a Kurdish–Kurdish agreement after months of negotiations.
