Middle East Council of Churches organizes program to support youth psychologically and spiritually in Lebanon

RABWA, Lebanon — In cooperation and coordination with the Department of Youth and the Great Seminary of the Greek Catholic Patriarchate — Rabwa, the Department of Theological Affairs and Ecumenical Relations of the Middle East Council of Churches organized a program for a group of young people from various member churches and scout movements and religious focused on trauma recovery and spiritual counseling.

The program was developed at the request of several young people who participated in two virtual meetings held by the MECC in the wake of the explosion at Beirut’s port arranged for them to share their aspirations and suggestions.

The trauma recovery and spiritual counseling program aims to support the participants spiritually and psychologically so that they can also help others.

The program included two training sessions covering several spiritual and psychological topics presented by specialists from different fields. The participants learned about types of trauma and how to deal with them, listening and positive communication techniques, and ways of addressing anger and confronting trauma in children and teenagers.

The sessions included practical exercises as well as spiritual and psychological engagement workshops during which the participants were able to share their experiences with others.

The MECC has worked extensively on implementing programs for young people, believing that they play a pioneering role in their churches and community.
