Zalin (Qamishli) Official Sabah Shabo: “Turkish regime stands in the way of the Turkish democracy and people’s rights as Turkish citizens.”
ZALIN (QAMISHLI), Syria – In a press gathering in Zalin city hall on the recent arrests of tens of politicians, mayors, and former lawmakers, official in the Municipalities and Environmental Protection Committee in Zalin (Qamishli) Canton Sabah Shabo declared that the Turkish authorities stand in the way of democracy and people’s constitutional rights as Turkish citizen. Her statement point to the arrest of several co-chairs of Turkish municipalities as part of an investigation into the 2014 “Kobani protests”. The co-chairs were replaced by Turkish government appointed agents.
Sabah Shabo (Syriac Union Party) emphasized that the Municipalities and Environmental Protection Committee in Zalin (Qamishli) Canton, Gozarto Region, strongly denounces these anti-democratic actions and violations of human rights. In her statement she called on human rights organizations to stand by the side of the detainees.
In a statement afterwards to Syriac Satellite Channel Suroyo TV Sabah Shabo in Zalin Canton stated:
“Today, we read a statement condemning the criminal act carried out by the Turkish regime led by the Justice and Development Party (AKP), where co-chairs of several municipalities had been arrested by people in Turkey.”
“We conclude that the Turkish regime stands in the way of the Turkish people’s democracy and rights, by arresting elected co-chairs and replacing them with agents affiliated with the Turkish regime.”
“We condemn these practices and demand all municipalities and peoples in the region, as well as human rights organizations to stand by the co-chairs arrested by the Turkish regime which must not stand against the will of the people and their freedom. Furthermore, human rights organizations must demand the freedom of these detainees.” Sabah Shabo concluded.
