Iraqi authorities arresting ISIS family smuggled across border near Shengal
BAGHDAD – In a press statement, Iraq’s Military Intelligence Directorate announced the arrest of a family affiliated with the Islamic State (ISIS) who had been smuggled into the country across the Syrian border.
“On Monday, we managed to arrest a family that managed to sneak across the Iraqi–Syrian border in the area adjacent to Mount Sinjar in Nineveh Province, with the help of smugglers,” read the statement.
The press release added that two of the family’s sons were killed while fighting for ISIS. A third son had fled to a neighboring country.
The family has been handed over to judicial authorities for further investigation and potential prosecution.
