IRAQ: Bethnahrain Patriotic Union commemorates Martyrs of Bethnahrin National Council

ANKAWA / ERBIL, Iraq – On 10 October, the day on which the Bethnahrin National Council (MUB) commemorates its martyrs, the Bethnahrain Patriotic Union (HBA) in Iraq organized the annual anniversary at the headquarters of the Chaldo-Assur Organization in Ankawa, northern Iraq.

The anniversary was opened by journalist Salah Sarkis and started with a moment of silence. A memorial was placed by two youths in folklore clothing with the lighting of candles. Meryem Cimad of the Bethnahrin Women’s Union (HNB) held a speech in remembrance of all Chaldeans-Syriacs-Assyrian that had to go through persecution, killings, and the witnessing of the savagery of ISIS. Unfortunately, she said, these were major reasons for displacement and many of our people were forced to flee and emigrate.

The President of the Bethnahrain Patriotic Union Yusuf Yahkub Matte held a speech in which he elaborated on the elevated meaning of martyrdom. He recited encouraging words for all national champions and protagonist and a motivating speech to our Chaldean-Syriac-Assyrian people in these difficult times in the Nineveh Plain, in Iraq, and in the Middle East in general. HBA President Yusuf Yahkub Matte called on his people to cherish their historical cultural riches and to stay strong in the struggle for freedom for or the Chaldean-Syriac-Assyrian people.

The evening was closed with the recital of poems by poet Behnam Cattalah from Bağdede, Nineveh Plain, and poet Amir Bulus from Bartella, Nineveh Plain.

Former Member of Iraqi Parliament Joseph Sliwa and members of the Bethnahrin National Council Sabah Barkho and Ramzi Yaqo were present at the commemoration.
