TEL TAMR / ZALIN (QAMISHLI), Syria – Against the backdrop of renewed Turkish aggression of North and East Syria, the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) issued a statement this week condemning the renewed bombings and increased attacks by Turkey and its militant mercenary factions, especially along the M4 highway and Ayn Issa.
In a statement with regards to this flaring up of Turkish aggression, spokesperson for the Syriac Military Council (MFS)* Aram Hanna told our news desk that the U.S. brokered cease-fire for North and East Syria has not stopped Turkey and its terrorist Syrian National Army factions from continually attacking the region. He said that the recent flare-up of Turkish hostility is merely a continuation of the military operation and occupation which has already displaced tens of thousands of the Democratic Autonomous Administration’s original residents, daily violates the rights of the remaining residents, and intends to bring about a demographic change of the region.
Hanna called on the active international forces in the Region to act immediately and stop the renewed Turkish aggression and the crimes against the people of North and East Syria. And as for the national state of emergency on Syria, which the U.S. has recently extended, Hanna welcomed this move and considered it a positive forward step for stability in the region, although at the same time noting that it is not in itself enough to protect the peoples of the region and stop ongoing Turkish attacks.
Hanna urged the international community and the active forces in the region to really take up their responsibility and role in the regions of North and East Syria and restore the areas occupied by Turkey and its militants to protect the peoples of the region with all its components.
The Syriac Military Council is the military affiliate of the Syriac Union Party in Syria. SUP Co-Chair Sanharib Barsoum, earlier this week, confirmed the increased Turkish military activity and violations. In statements to our news desk, he said that Turkey’s geopolitical agenda is to divide the Administration, change its demographics, and expand its geopolitical influence. By displacing indigenous peoples and settling non-indigenous people, Turkey has started the process of demographic change in the areas it occupies.
He said the occupation of Turkey and human rights violations come amid a deeply disappointing international and regional silence, and that the international community must start really acting and taking all the necessary measures to prevent the ongoing practices of the Turkish occupation as they impede any potential political solution that could take place in Syria.
