Syriac Military Council of North and East Syria congratulates U.S. President-elect Joe Biden on election

NORTH AND EAST SYRIA — The General Command of the Syriac Military Council (Mawthbo Folhoyo Suryoyo, MFS) congratulated U.S. President-elect Joe Biden (D) following a competitive electoral campaign. The MFS affirmed its full readiness to continue cooperation and partnership with the new U.S. administration in combating terrorism.

The MFS issued the congratulations via Twitter on Monday, almost a week after the 4 November election, the results of which were not confirmed until last Friday.

The MFS also confirmed its continued struggle with the U.S.-led International Coalition to eradicate the remnants of terrorism in North and East Syria, stressing that the partnership with the Coalition is the only way to guarantee the stability and safety of the wider region and called on the incoming Biden Administration to preserve the presence of Christians in the Middle East, including the indigenous peoples of the region and groups at risk of annihilation.

The Syriac Military Council is a co-founding member of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), the main ally of the U.S.-led International Coalition in the effort to combat the Islamic State and other extremist forces in Syria. The MFS has fought alongside the Coalition and other members of the SDF during the fierce battles to liberate the region from ISIS. Dozens of MFS members have been killed during the years long campaign.
